Bathing was not considered to be a part of forcible fitness during the ancient days. It was during 500 BC that the Roman Empire made it mandatory for citizens to take bath as a part of personal hygiene. They used marble for building tubs and bathing activities took place in a world place in Rome earlier. Later some of the citizens reinforced bath rooms and tubs that were like swimming pools which were of the sizing of an entire room. Their bath tubs were masterwork of architecture and quintessence of luxury. Ceilings of bath suite were decorated with colorful mosaics. There were statues every where and there was facility for hot bath also. Furnaces were there to provide hot water to tubs through pipes.
Greeks introduced much littler bath tubs than Romans but it was too small and was not able to accommodate a bather. They used such vessels for holding water for rinsing. They used very advanced plumping system. The ruins of several palaces reveal the use of bath suite and some vase paintings disclose the use of showers. Usually they used cold water for washup and considered warm water as effeminate.
Bath tubs were introduced in America only in 1850′s. They used wooden bath tubs and poured water with hand. These tubs were seamed with metal. It was only in 1852 that a public bath was introduced here. In 1895 a law was made to provide world washup facility to all citizens. Tubs in their modern form and its use found place at homes only during 1900′s in America. During the early decades of twentieth century most of the Americans had bath tubs in their kitchen. But with the arrival of European immigrants these bath tubs found their place in garden. They considered tubs as unnecessary luxury and used them for planting flowers and vegetables. But now America is having highest number of bath tub usage. Some of the houses have even three or four tubs.
Japanese placed bath tubs outside the house and the whole family bathed together in tub. Usually they used very hot water for filling the tubs. Even private baths were non so private and populace bathing was very common there. The modern days witness several new forms of tubs with facility for hot and cold water. But bath tubs consume more water as compared to showers. They are very common even in the underdeveloped countries. It is non considered as a matter of luxury but as a part of physical cleanliness. Taking bath and showers is an important factor of health and even doctor’s advice is to take two baths regularly. Some even take more showers as part of rituals and beliefs. However, it is advised to limit the usage of bathtubs to reduce consumption of water and hence most people prefer a shower.
There is even a sports event related to bath tubs in British Columbia. The sport is called bath tub racing in which tubs are filled by outboard motors and races over a 36 mile course. The sport is conducted astatine Vancouver. Longest distance covered in 24 hours in this sport is 36.6miles.
